At Roosevelt IB MS, RMS Music encourages Students to play music together, build friendships, entertain audiences and have fun!
RMS Music 2023-2024
6th Graders are enrolled in a semester-long Music course in either Semester 1 or Semester 2 of the regular school year. This music course is an introduction to music through music culture & history, composition, survey of brass, woodwind, percussion and string instruments and Digital Music Production (MIDI Keyboards, BandLab, Soundtrap, Ableton).
Electives Choices: 6th, 7th and 8th Graders may enroll in Beginning Band, Jazz Ensemble (Advanced), Beginning/ Advanced Orchestra and Percussion Ensemble. Sign-ups begin late Spring and continue through the first few weeks of school. When music classes are full, Students are placed on a wait list.

RMS Music Schedule 2023-2024
- Band/Jazz Band: Brass (Trumpets, Trombones), Saxophones (alto, baritone), Rhythm Section (Percussion, Piano/Keyboard, Bass (double/upright acoustic, electric).
- Mondays & Wednesdays, 7th Period.
- TBD 2024-2025: Advanced Band to go to Monday – Friday schedule during school hours (Periods 1 – 6); students take 0 Period PHE.
- Orchestra: Strings (Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass).
- Monday – Friday, 6th Period. Advanced Orchestra students take 0 Period PHE.
- Tuesdays & Thursdays, 7th Period: Beginning Orchestra.

MUSIC BOOSTERS
The Music Boosters volunteers are RMS Music Families and RMS Community members who support the Music Director and Music Students through fundraising, events coordination, chaperoning, coaching and administrative assistance. ALL are WELCOME at Music Booster Meetings! Please attend to get first-hand details on upcoming music events, activities and fundraisers. We appreciate your support!
- We partner with music organizations for in-person, online, livestream/live-hosted, music education presentations and concerts with teaching musicians, artists and ensembles.
- Our Music Education & Community Partners include: La Jolla Music Society, Classics 4 Kids, San Diego Symphony, AmateurPianists.org and more!!
- Music Coaches provide individual and small group instrumental instruction.
- Encourage innovation in music by supplementing traditional music education with Digital Music Production.

RooFriends Music Boosters thanks the San Diego Symphony for including the RMS Community in their “Music Connects” Community Access Concert Tickets program!!

We encourage RMS Students, Families, Teachers and Staff to enjoy live music – FREE – with the San Diego Symphony at The Rady Shell in Jacobs Park, the Jacobs Music Center and venues throughout San Diego County.
FUNDRAISING
- GIVE THE GIFT OF MUSIC: An annual, week-long, online campaign which highlights RMS Music accomplishments to inspire the RMS Community to support the music program. Daily “Spotlight on Music” stories are featured on RooFriends.org, Friends of Roosevelt Foundation and RMS Music social media accounts and Principal’s endorsements by phone call and emails.
- PARKING FUNDRAISERS: Throughout the year, RMS Music Families, including students, volunteer to help with RooFriends Parking Fundraisers and earn earmarked funds for the music program. Please designate your time to “Music Boosters.”
- ONLINE DONATIONS: We accept DONATIONS all year long to help fund music festivals, outreach field trips, instrument parts, sheet music and other classroom supplies. Thank You!!
