Every 6th Grade Student is enrolled in a semester-long RMS Music course with Mr. “EK” Elias Kocivar in either Semester 1 or 2 of the regular school year. This Music Appreciation course is an Introduction to Music through music culture & history, composition, hands-on percussion instruments and Digital Music Production (MIDI Keyboards, BandLab, Soundtrap, Ableton).
6th Grade Students may also enroll in one of the 7th Period Music Electives: Beginning Band, Jazz Band (Advanced Band) or Orchestra (Strings, Beginning and Advanced Levels). Sign-ups for Electives begin late Spring and continue through the first few weeks of the next school year. When Elective classes are full, Students are placed on a wait list.
RMS Music continues Music Enrichment Education throughout the year by offering Music Summer Camps on campus: Digital Music, Orchestra and Strings. These opportunities are open to all Middle School students, including Rising/ Incoming 6th Graders and RMS Class of 2023 through SDUSD LevelUp Summer Enrichment with SDUSD Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) and the VAPA Foundation.
