Hello, Incoming Roosevelt Families!

I hope you are enjoying a wonderful summer so far.  Here a few important summer updates for you.  While some of you may have another school planned for your child in the fall, I am sharing this information in case you decide to have your child attend Roosevelt IB MS.  For those of you who will join our Roosevelt MS Family, I look forward to meeting you soon!

New Students Orientation will be August 25, 9:00 – 11:00 AM.

We will send an email home mid-August with more details. 

Bell Schedule for the 2022-23

Most of our school days will start at 8:30 AM and end at 3:14 PM.  We have late start days on one Wednesday a month that start at 9:30 am and end at  3:14 PM, and a few minimum days that start at 8:30 am and end at 1:44 pm.  Our minimum days will be before holiday breaks and for Student Led Conferences in October and March.  Here is a tentative calendar of important dates.  I will include an updated copy in in my email home in August.

RMS Music: Band/Orchestra

Most 6th Graders will be enrolled in a Music Class in either 1st OR 2nd Semester .  In addition, if your child is interested in joining RMS Band or Orchestra (AFTER school, 7th Period), please submit this 6th Grade RMS Music Interest Survey.  No music experience is required and there will be a late bus.  The tentative Band and Orchestra schedule for 2022-2023 is:

• Band/ Jazz Band (Brass, Woodwinds, Percussion, Piano): Mondays & Wednesdays, 3:19 – 4:19 PM.

• Orchestra (Strings): Tuesdays & Thursdays, 3:19 – 4:19 PM.

RMS Student Dress Policy

Last year, we changed our Dress Policy to no longer require our students to wear uniforms at Roosevelt. Please review the current RMS Student Dress Policy  for the 2022-23 school year.  RMS gear is still encouraged, and students will have the opportunity to pick-up donated RMS gear at no cost.  We’ll set-up a RMS Gear Room and share more info prior to the start of school.

Uniforms will continue to be required for Physical and Health Education.  These will be sold the week before school (August 22-26), as well as the first week of school (Aug 29-Sep 2). 

FREE SUMMER MEALS for ALL CHILDREN

SDUSD is providing FREE MEALS for all children age 18 and under across San Diego this summer.  No paperwork, proof of residency or ID required. Locations closest to RMS are: City Heights, Golden Hill and North Park Recreation Centers, Copley YMCA, Sherman Heights Community Center and Lincoln & Hoover High Schools.

Friends of Roosevelt Foundation (RooFriends)

The Friends of Roosevelt Foundation is composed of parents/guardians and community volunteers who raise funds to provide for and enhance RMS Students’ educational experience. We currently have 2 open board positions and are looking for diverse voices to represent our diverse student body.  For inquiries, please contact RooFriends via info@friendsofroosevelt.org.
