A Message from Principal Steinberger: Cell Phones/Social Media.

We have had numerous issues with student cell phone and social media use on campus over the past few weeks.  Among the most serious has been the posting of pictures of Staff and Students on Instagram using alternative anonymous accounts.  We have and will continue to hold those Students accountable.  Please look at your child(ren)’s social media accounts.  Here is a guide to help navigate through a child’s Instagram accounts:  Digital Citizen Academy.  This section is particularly relevant:

“Instagram added the capability to switch back and forth between multiple accounts without having to log in and out. When you look at the Instagram app on your child’s phone, go to their profile and look next to the username at the top. If you see a down arrow next to it, click the arrow and any other accounts that they are logged into should pop-up.”

If you happen to discover an account that may be contributing to unsafe or unwelcome behavior at school, please have your child delete all photos and the account, and contact us for next steps.

Additionally, we are noticing more phones out around campus. As a reminder cell phones are not allowed to be used during the school hours, including lunch.  Cell phone use during school will result in cell phones being confiscated, no matter who they are texting, and will potentially need to be picked up by a parent.  If there is an emergent situation, they need to let an adult know.

We need your help to make sure our students are making good decisions. This  Cyberbulling | No Place for Hate Presentation was shared during Advisory period this week is a good resource for parents as well.

Thank you,

Principal Steinberger (bsteinberger@sandi.net) and Vice Principal Brewer (cbrewer@sandi.net)
