SDUSD invites SDUSD Families to participate in a series of forums designed to start a conversation about the community’s vision for San Diego Unified and the qualities needed in a Superintendent to lead us toward that vision.

The first community engagement sessions will take place virtually on Thursday, July 29, and Friday, July 30. A total of 30 forums will be scheduled on Zoom and in-person across the school district through September 2021.  The goal is not simply to choose the next outstanding leader for San Diego Unified, but to truly engage the entire city — every community — on the future of our schools.

The Board of Education adopted the Superintendent Recruitment and Selection Process (Feb 2, 2021) that reflects its commitment to engage stakeholders from throughout San Diego Unified in a robust and open conversation around the vision for the school district and Superintendent.

A 37-member Superintendent Search Advisory Committee has been established to oversee the process, and the National Center on Education and the Economy (NCEE) has been contracted to facilitate the community outreach and public forums.

NCEE will publicly share the results of the community forums with the board. The public input gathered at the engagement meetings will be used to shape the Superintendent recruitment process and job position, which will be posted and advertised in the fall.

Longtime San Diego Unified educator, Dr. Lamont Jackson, was appointed as Interim Superintendent through Dec. 31, 2021 after former Superintendent Cindy Marten was named  Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Education in May 2021.

San Diego Unified will conduct the first five community engagement forums virtually. All virtual sessions will use the same, recurring login information.
