COMMUNITY
Gender & Sexuality Alliance (GSA)

Roosevelt’s GSA is a student-led club that promotes equality and diversity among all students regardless of their gender and sexuality. Our club also provides a safe space for our LGBT+ students. In addition, students are engaged in current issues regarding LGBT+ as well as open and educational discussions among students. In past years, GSA club has also been involved in our school activities, as well as District-approved community events such as the San Diego Pride Parade, Safe-School Summit, GLSEN events, etc. Any student is welcome to join the GSA club at any time.
SCIENCE & NATURE
Girls in Science with the San Diego Zoo
- Oct. 14, Nov. 4, Oct. 28, Dec. 2, and Dec. 16

- Girls in Science Application (mandatory)
The Girls in Science program is a partnership with the San Diego Zoo and participants will make regular trips to the zoo. While at the San Diego Zoo and here at Roosevelt, members learn about topics such as habitat conservation, ecosystems, and animal life cycles from women working in various capacities at the zoo. Year round offering. All applicants must submit a separate Girls in Science application to complete in addition to the After-School Enrichment Activities online form. Places in the class will only be awarded to students who have completed both the online ASE application and completed the separate Girls in Science application.
SERVICE
No Place for Hate

The No Place for Hate group is a group of students who work together to create a more inclusive school. How do we do this? By exploring the needs of the school and create opportunities for discussion and working together. Our club will design all school activities that will work to prevent bullying and create a better school culture. This is a great opportunity for 8th graders who are looking to fulfill their community service requirement.
Associated Student Body (ASB)

ASB is a student organization focused on building leadership, and organizing school wide activities such as digital events, contests and spirit days.
GAMES
Strategic Games
- Oct. 19 – Dec. 18, 2020
- Tuesdays, 3:30 – 4:30 pm and Thursdays, 3:30 – 4:30 pm
- Leader: Mr. Runyan
Strategic games are beneficial for the development of critical thinking, creative thinking, strategic thinking, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills. The students would be given the opportunity to learn chess, checkers, card games, Risk, Dungeons and Dragons, Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokémon, backgammon, cribbage, Battleship, Monopoly etc. In addition, students may bring their own strategic games in order to teach other students and compete in tournaments in Zoom breakout rooms. Please come prepared to learn strategic games and have fun!
