Dearest Roosevelt International Middle School Community,
Serving as your principal has been a special honor and a significant highlight of my twenty year career in the San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD). It has been a pleasure partnering with our teachers, staff, parents/guardians and Rough Riders that have made my time at Roosevelt very rewarding. It is with heartfelt words that I share with you that, earlier this evening, I was appointed by our Superintendent as an Instructional Support Officer. My main role will be working alongside secondary principals district-wide. While I am excited about my new role, I will miss our Rough Rider family.
As I reflect over the past four years, I am inspired about our collective work in supporting the International Baccalaureate (IB) philosophy for each and every student. Together we emphasized a relentless focus on our students by ensuring they all have access to high levels of learning with appropriate supports and by building relationships and connections with our learners. I am proud of our work together creating advisory school-wide, integrating student-led conferences, preparing for the upcoming IB Self-Study and offering a seven period school day with block scheduling. Through our collaborative efforts, we accomplished a number of amazing opportunities in service of our scholars.
Roosevelt exemplifies a quality neighborhood community school. The staff members always put students first, the students are principled, reflective, inquirers and the parents/guardians are supportive, friendly, and caring. I feel very fortunate to have been part of the Roosevelt International Middle School community and I will always cherish the time spent at this school learning with all of you!
Please know that our Area Superintendent, Mitzi Merino, is committed to finding an exceptional leader to become the next principal of Roosevelt. A community meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, July 2, 2019 from 7:30 am-8:30 am in the Roosevelt Library. All are invited to provide insight and feedback. In the period of transition, an Interim Principal will be identified to help open the 2019-2020 school year.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve you, your children and this wonderful school community. I am exceptionally proud of our journey together. I appreciate the many, many memories I have made together with the staff, students and families over the years. I look forward to hearing great things about their continued growth and accomplishments. I will always feel a part of the Rough Rider Family.
With my sincerest gratitude,
Christina Casillas, Ed.D.
