Two things are happening this week that parents should be aware of:
1) Tuesday, March 13, will be the teacher’s Work to Rule Day. The teachers will not go on campus until 7:15 and they will leave promptly at 2:30. This action is to show the District the value of teachers and will demonstrate what the schools look like without the countless outside-the-classroom contributions provided to our children.
2) On Wednesday, March 14
, at 10am, there is a nationwide school walkout to protest gun violence. In a student-led, on-campus event, students will walk to the joint-use field, where a rally will honor the victims of Parkland, Florida. The students who are organizing this have given a lot of thought to how to make this a meaningful, respectful event. The students have worked to coordinate this with the school administration, and no student will be punished for participating in this on-campus event.
Please talk to your son or daughter about what they plan on doing and if they will be participating in the walkout. The student organizers are asking for parent volunteers to help with safety, security and crowd control for the walkout. Volunteers should sign in at the office. The event is planned to last approximately 30 minutes. If you have any questions, or would like to offer your services in planning and prep work, contact Alex Mondragon, Student Co-Leader at firstname.lastname@example.org or parent volunteer, Patty Mondragon at email@example.com.
Not interested in participating? All students are welcome to attend an alternate program in the auditorium.
*One more thing: RooFriends Community Meeting is Wednesday night. More info to come.
